Out and About in Jomtien

Jomtien is situated about 3km from Pattaya city and is famous for its 7km long sandy beach. Many tourists visiting Pattaya City wanting to take time to relax from the hustle and bustle of the entertainment and shopping hub head straight to Jomtien.

The journey is easy, Jomtien is simply a five minute Baht Bus or Songthaew ride from the centre of Pattaya. It will cost around THB 20 and the bus will drop you off wherever you like along Jomtien Beach road.

Many expats prefer to live in this quieter environment and a host of condos, housing developments and new builds have grown to provide homes for this demand. Plus also many wealthy Thai nationals from Bangkok own second residences in Jomtien and spend weekends down on the coast.

All this has led to the establishment of restaurants, sports pubs, entertainment venues, local shops and massage parlours. Some of the best international restaurants in the whole of Pattaya are to be found in Jomtien and the pubs are more like friendly locals than elsewhere in the city.

RESTAURANTS

RESTAURANTS

Jomtien can offer nearly every type of cuisine that you could desire, including fine relaxed beachfront dining as well as some of the best fine dining in the whole of the Eastern Seaboard.

If you desire fine dining then look no further than Cafe De Amis, Gian’s, Mata Hari, News Steak and Grill, Bruno’s, Linda’s and Natans. More traditional european fare you can find at; Maggs, Akvavit, Pan Pan, Yupins and a spectacular authentic Indian restaurant called Indian By Nature.

Great Thai food is also represented by the lively Kaffa, Sense Of The Sea and Antz. But seafood is one of Jomtien’s specialities and it is why hungry diners flock to the area. Try Kit Seafood, Pattaya Seafood, Lungsawai and Suttangrak.

PUBS AND SPORTS BARS

There are some of the best traditional type pubs as well as great sports bars to be found in Pattaya.   Because of the high expat residency in the area they really are more like Locals than tourist bars.  For catching up with all the sport and watching live games then Frasers, The Pig & Whistle and Shenanigans all offer multiple screens and food.

Jomtien also has a fine complement of Beer Bars and the area by the market must house at least 30 bars in that one complex alone.

ENTERTAINMENT

Most entertainment is to be found along the extensive Jomtien Beach road although there are many bars to be found in the popular Boys Town located in the Jomtien Complex. Great live music venues are dotted all over Jomtien and they add to the very mixed atmosphere.

The Venue in the Jomtien Complex is one of the City’s most well known and popular cabaret and transgender show bars. It has nightly shows from professional and highly trained dancers in a Broadway style production. A more traditional Thai inspired cultural evening can be found at Alankarn for those tourists who prefer a little authenticity.

Most locals and tourists alike prefer Jomtien for the real beach scene than central Pattaya

It is far more laid back than the city and in truth the beach is much better and cleaner. Jomtien is very laid back but offers everything that you might need after the sun goes down. Things are a lot slower and people tend to have more time to talk, there is almost a village feel to the place and that can’t be bad.
